If you’re having trouble connecting your broker to the Tykr portfolio tracker, rest assured, a new and improved portfolio tracker with broker connections is coming very soon.
Target delivery: March of 2026
Here is the context on the problems and solutions.
Problems:
- Limited transaction history – A few brokers have limited transaction history. Some examples include Interactive Brokers (14 days), Chase (2 years), E*TRADE (2 years), Fidelity (2 years), Schwab (4 years), etc. See details here.
- Limited transaction bandwidth – We found in some cases that when a broker connection is made, not all transactions copy from the broker to Tykr. A good example is, let’s say, a portfolio has 1,000 transactions. The broker, in some cases, won’t copy all transactions to Tykr. It may copy 850. This may be caused by the number of FinTech platforms connecting to the same API at the same time. In summary, data is “lost in translation” because the API bandwidth is limited.
Solutions:
- Move from Transactions to Assets – Instead of trying to pull 1,000 transactions into Tykr, we will simplify the portfolio tracker so Tykr only pulls the asset and the value of the asset. An example is, let’s say, you own 10 shares of Apple (AAPL) at a share price of $250. ($250 x 10 = $2,500). Let’s also say you own 10 shares of Microsoft (MSFT) at a share price of $400. ($400 x 10 = $4,000). If we only look at the Assets, then in this case, we only pull 4 data points. 1. AAPL 2. $2,500. 3. MSFT 4. $4,000. 4 data points is a lot less bandwidth consumption than 1,000 data points. Less data equals a lower margin of error.
- No broker limitations – Because the new Tykr Portfolio Tracker will focus on assets as opposed to transactions, we won’t have to worry about the transaction history. In other words, you can connect to any of the brokers listed on the Tykr Connect my Broker page, and the value in your broker should be very close to the value in Tykr. Keep in mind, it may not be 100% the same because the connection from the broker to the stock exchange may be slightly ahead of or behind Tykr’s connection to our data provider, FMP. Rest assured, it should be very close.
New Features Coming Soon:
Because we are making these changes to the portfolio tracker, a few new features will be launched sooner rather than later.
- Real-time pricing – We will soon go live with real-time pricing and 15-minute delay pricing. The exchanges that will allow real-time pricing and 15-minute delay pricing include the NASDAQ (Global tech stocks), NYSE (US), JPX (Japan), ASX (Australia), and LSE (London). Real-time pricing will be available for Premium Plus and Advanced plans. This feature is available for the higher plans because of the higher server bandwidth requirements to display real-time pricing and 15-minute delay pricing for the Tykr customer base.
- Buy and Sell in Tykr – We will soon add “Buy” and “Sell” buttons in Tykr. When you click either button, a pop-up will say something along the lines of “This trade is facilitated by (insert your broker name)”. Buy and Sell in Tykr will be available for Premium Plus and Advanced plans. This feature is available for the higher plans because of the third-party connections to Connect Trade and SnapTrade.
Overall, thanks for your patience with the broker connections. It is our top priority to make the improvements listed above to make a better broker connection experience.
